If you’re currently short on storage for some of your equipment, learning how to build a backyard shed yoursel could very well be the solution. Building a shed is not that hard if ample planning and effort is thrown in in the project.

The first time I decided to build a backyard shed, I thought that it is such a painstaking task. That’s probably why I kept on postponing building the shed until much later when I was quite confident of my woodworking skills.

Now I realized that building a backyard shed is not that hard if what you have in mind is just some basic structure. You can renovate it much later on when the need arises or if you have ample time in your hands.

Anyway, here are some things you have to keep in mind aif you wish to build a backyard shed:

SIZE

Would you like to build a 10×10 shed? Or a 10×12? Or perhaps a bigger shed to store bigger equipment? The size of the shed is dependent on several factors. Some of which are the available space in your backyard, the cost you are willing to spend and the purpose for which you built the backyard shed.

MATERIALS

Another things which you have to decide on is the material you are going to use to build the shed. I strongly suggest using wood or concrete or a combination of the two.

I personally used wood in building a backyard shed as I alraedy have some materials available. Most wooden shed use plywood and it is most often painted or stained to protect the wood from excessive moisture.

Concrete, on the other hand is of more ppermanent structure. You just need to put the slab first and then stack the blocks with mortar to hold them in place. You can then apply concrete sealer to make the structure sturdier and to protect it from moisture. Whether you paint it or not is completely up to you but painting it would add more aesthetic value to your bacyard shed.

SHED PLAN

Having a shed plan to follow would make the building process easier. Without it, you can easily overlook some things which could cause unnecessary delay in your project and additional cost and not to mention, frustration.

I personally used an easy to follow, step-by-step guide in any woodworking project I undertake. Building a shed is no exception. Good thing too because the resource I’ve always used in my other woodworking pprojects also have many shed plans in its catalog. It proved to be a very nifty guide for me.

You can check as I’m sure it would provide the same value for you too.

I’ve always been an avid fan of crafts. Having finished my first woodworking piece has got me hooked on building my next one and my next one until it just sort of dawned on me that a lot of furniture in the house is MY handiwork.Such a rewarding thing that is. To be able to see and use something you’ve made with your own hands.Lest you think I’m just good with the craft, I’ll be the first to tell you, I’m not. I just have some help with a very good woodworking plan resource which I’m using up until now. See if it will bring you the same benefits too.
